Song for the Mute

Founded in Sydney in 2010 by lifelong friends Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty, Song for the Mute began as a single asymmetric t-shirt and grew into one of Australia's most internationally recognised labels. Each collection is conceived as a chapter in an ongoing story, rooted in personal experience and developed through close collaboration with artisanal mills in Japan, Italy, and France. Distressed finishes, deconstructed silhouettes, and layered experimental textiles define the work — clothing that rewards close attention and wears its craft quietly.
