Collection: Comme des Garçons Comme des Garçons

Comme des Garçons was founded in Tokyo in 1969 by Rei Kawakubo, a self-taught designer who studied art history and literature rather than fashion. Her conviction from the beginning was that women should be free to move and exist without dressing for anyone else's approval. When the label debuted in Paris in 1981, its all-black palette, asymmetry, and deliberately unfinished construction shocked an industry unprepared for it. Kawakubo's process begins with a single word or abstract idea, passed to her team with no sketches and no reference points — only the pursuit of something that did not exist before. More than five decades on, that remains the only brief.
