What size should I buy?
You will find two Issey Miyake clothing brands at Dilettante, both of which have different sizing systems. The Pleats Please range does not translate directly to traditional sizing charts, but rather follows a 1-5 size range that reflects the length of the garment rather than the width.
Each piece of Pleats Please begins as a wide piece of material that is pleated once the garment has been constructed. The amount of fabric used, along with the incorporation of elasticated waistbands, allows the garment to stretch horizontally and fit most sizes. Thus, only the length differs between sizes, with around 2.5-3cm difference from one size to the next.
Therefore, regardless of your regular dress size, Pleats Please garments should be chosen by desired length. In addition to this, the full size range is not produced for each style with some pieces only available in sizes 3-5.
Unlike the Pleats Please range, each piece of Issey Miyake ME is created in one size. Although the Issey Miyake ME garments are designed to fit most sizes, the garments may be more or less flexible depending on the fabrication.
All Issey Miyake garments, including Pleats Please and ME, should be washed in a laundry bag on a gentle machine cycle with cold water, and laid flat to dry. Issey Miyake garments should never be dry-cleaned, washed on a warm machine cycle or ironed, as any form of heat will compromise the heat-set pleating.
Roll in the direction of the pleats when storing. Ease of care and crease-resistance means Issey Miyake pieces are perfect for travel and every day wear.
